Abba-wonderful-lanche
The time has finally come for our "Abbalanche" fun'draiser! A couple of our parishioners (Lesley and Peter Watter, pictured in 1 in brunette wigs) belong to a famous, internationally award-winning, Abba "tribute band" called Abbalanche. They dress up like the famous pop group and sing and dance live all of their big hits. And what a night!
We charged a fee ($40/ticket), were given access to a nearby, Catholic high school's gymnasium (since we don’t have our own) and then went about making raking in money for our future renovations. They sang their famous "Money, Money, Money" song as we went about with bags for folks to drop bills into. We also sold gourmet coffees and teas and home made sweets. The leftover sweets yesterday night were then sold after the morning masses—win win all around!
As you can see we had about 250 people show up (photos 2-4), and most of guests stood and danced the night away like royalty! (Get the reference?) My friend Andrew (7) was selected the evening's "Dancing Queen" and joined the band for the last song stage.
Those who've come to visit from the States might recognize this lady if she'd had her normal black hair (8). She bought a blue wig and dressed in go-go boots (9, with Br. Dominic and our groundskeepper, Vince Bosco). You go Soo!
All in all it was so much fun. So many came up to me and expressed surprise at how good the band was (they really do sound like Abba) and wanted us to do this again next year!
