Monday is a public holiday here: the Queen's birthday. And we’ve been having a rainy, cold week. But Sunday was supposed to be nicer. Weather forecast was lows in the upper 50's with a slight chance of rain in the city. They have this light show going on since 25 May called Vivid Sydney. This is the fourth year in a row that I have been to the 3 week event in the middle of Winter.
I took the bus from the house as I didn’t want to deal with downtowntraffic and parking. The trip is about an hour fifteen or so by bus. Got down there around 6 o’clock. And there were tons of people!
Mind you Vivid Sydney has been going on for about two and a half weeks already and there’s only just a couple more days left! I thought because of the cooler weather and the damp days, people would be staying home. Boy was I wrong!
All in all I didn’t see much of the show. Mainly just the Opera House which is the centerpiece. Part of me was fighting around with the slow moving crowds. The other part of me was just trying to get through to where I wanted to go. Eventually I got to frustrated when it poured on us around 7 o’clock. That's when I started to fight the crowds to get home. The bus was equally packed!
Anyway, here are my photos of what I did see. If you look through the shots of the Opera House, they are in order and you can kind of see the animation. It was interesting show. A mix of organic and geometric. I will include a video too from another source (not me). Enjoy.
