Walkabout Sydney's Bays: Part 3 The Gap & Watson Bay
I don't really know too much of the history of the Gap. It sits at the very end of a peninsula so you can see both the inner (that leads to the city center) and outer harbor (that leads to open water). They recently finished an upgrade to this area that used to be a lot more rustic. You can see the beautiful sculpting on a sand stone column that sits on either side of steps that lead you to the top (first photo). There is also a disabled ramp for those who need to take it slower, but the steepness of the ramp makes me wonder who could traverse it!
Before we got too far, I noticed one of my feathered friends sucking on some nector from a bottle brush tree. You can see the closer detail of him in the third photo.
At the top you get some great views of the city (you can see it in the very center of the fourth photo and a close up in the fifth) and some great cliffs (6-7).
Photo 8 is a selfie of myself with sweet, little Soo, who's shorter than me! Photos 9-10 are images of North Head which I have climbed before.
The final images here are of Watcon Bay that sits on the inner harbor side of the peninsula. It has a lovely green park with a playground and a gazebo. There is some small shops and a place for fisherfolk to leave their row boats.
All day we had lovely weather. The sun shone throughout and we had a gentle breeze with temperatures in the mid to upper 70's! (And this is their dead of winter!) Today the temps have fallen to mid 50's and will probably not rise again for the rest of the week. we grabbed our day and made the most of it. Wish you were with us to enjoy it!
